The Hotspur pub, in Newcastle’s Haymarket, is enjoying its first-ever ale festival this week with an impressive range of 26 different cask beers on tap for the region’s enthusiasts.

The cask ale celebration runs through until Sunday, with a wide variety of beers on offer from famous national brands to locally-produced ales.

Hotspur manager Richard Steel is hoping real ale lovers from across Tyneside will visit and make the most of what’s on offer.

"A range of breweries have stepped in to help make our debut event a success," he said. "We have seasonal brews for summer as well as traditional favourites. There should be something to suit every palate."

With good weather forecast and an influx of visitors expected for the Town Moor Hoppings and the Northumberland Plate Festival, Richard is confident his first Hotspur ale event will prove popular.

"We will be putting the beers on a rota system so it’s a case of first come, first served – once it’s gone, it’s gone!" he added.
