HEXHAM’S first ever Eating Festival takes place on Saturday, September 26.

The Abbey Cloister will be filled with lots to eat and drink.

Cookery demonstrations will take place throughout the day – sit down with a glass of French wine from the Grape Unknown or a glass of beer from Wylam Brewery, and watch as John Crouch, Cumbrian chef extraordinaire transforms his purchases from the Hexham Farmers’ Market into a range of dishes from throughout the ages.

There will be plenty to eat and drink throughout the day – stalls will include Kielder Organic meats with mouth-watering burgers, delicious fish dishes from Ridley’s Fish and Game and Fentiman’s botanically brewed soft drinks – and lots more. Plus it is all free!

The event has been organised by the Hexham Community Partnership in association with the Business Forum and the Hexham Abbey Festival.

It forms a part of the Street Festival and Family Fun Day – so there will be lots going on in the town centre all that day from 10am to 4pm – live music on the Abbey Flags, children’s activities in the park.

Malcolm Eglin, of the Hexham Community Partnership, says: “The Abbey Cloister is a wonderfully atmospheric location to be able to use for this sort of event and we are grateful to everyone who has made it possible.

“There will be some fantastic food to eat throughout the event and the cookery demonstrations should inspire even the most reluctant cook to have a go at using some of the wonderful locally produced ingredients there are around at this time of year.”
