IT was a long wait for fans of London wordsmith Jamie T, but it was worth it.
A euphoric crowd packed Northumbria University’s Stage 2 for the Newcastle leg of the singer’s tour, rescheduled from October after Jamie suffered a bout of laryngitis.
They were certainly not disappointed.
The Mercury Music Prize nominee delivered his story-book vocals with all the brash energy which has earned him chart success.
In a set ricocheting between anthemic and mellow, Jamie trotted out album favourites embracing everything from hip-hop to acoustic, while new material revealed ska and two-tone influences.
Not even onstage cock-ups could dampen the mood - when a lyrical gaffe collapsed one song, it simply earned the Wimbledon-born singer an even bigger cheer.
By the time the encore ended with a storming rendition of new single Sticks & Stones, the audience was hollering back the lyrics almost as loudly as Jamie himself.
