Cyndi LauperCyndi Lauper: Bring ya to the brink

SHE may be 54, but Cyndi is showing she can still give today’s club kings and queens a run for their money.

This is a stunning collection of dance tunes for which she has enlisted some grade-A producers.

Lauper has never really been given the recognition she deserves. She has a voice that is at one moment tender as a newborn baby and the next as hard-hitting as a thunderstorm. No technical wizardry is needed!

Here she has worked with the likes of Scumfrog. Basement Jaxx, Rich Morel and Kleerup and the results are at times breathtaking.

Lead single Into The Nightlife has already been number one on the dance charts in the States and is one of the catchiest club anthems of the year.

For Echo she takes the pace down a bit, as with the album’s end track Rain On Me, which is a glorious dance ballad.

She’s on her first tour of Britain in nearly 14 years later in the year, sadly there are no Newcastle dates.
