THE monthly SPEAR:LIVE showcase for Teesside’s emerging talent tonight at Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt features the burgeoning gifts of JIMMY BULLET & THE BABYSHAKERS.The Teesside five-piece are quickly making a name for themselves round these parts with their all out, straight up garage rock.
The blues and punk influenced noise-makers have been described as a mix of MC5 and The Stooges.
There are some big riffs here, but don’t think of stadiums - theirs is a style of music that makes you move involuntarily in the strangest of ways.
Also on the bill are energetic young three piece 3 FOOT NINJA (pictured), fronted by Jordan Bell on guitar and vocals with his brother Joe on bass. Kane Waterfield has recently joined the band on drums.
The three-piece specialise in guitar-fuelled indie/punk which has seen them play alongside the likes of The Subways, Pete And The Pirates and The Buzzcocks.
Last but by no means least are new lot COLD PISTOLS, whose sound consists of jangly upbeat guitars with laid back vocals. Like a Teesside Julian Casablancas, the group have been described as “Stockton’s answer to Bombay Bicycle Club”.
All SPEAR events, which are organised by Generator, are free entry and tonight is no different.
Laura Hannaway, from Middlesbrough Town Hall, says: “We are passionate about giving musicians and budding music entrepreneurs in the area a chance to develop their careers and this project gives us a chance to do that.
“Generator’s SPEAR: programme is exciting and refreshing and gives people a high quality experience and it will be a great night out for everyone watching.”
