It will screen the best of the Reggae Film Festival on Saturday and Sunday, both at 2pm.

The Pilgrim Street cinema has got together with Boss Sounds to bring the Jamaica-based Reggae Film Festival to Newcastle and satisfy Reggae aficionados everywhere.

The Red Stripe Boss Sounds Festival this year includes two great selections of Reggae movies:

Part 1, on Saturday, features The Story of Randys, which looks at the golden age of Jamaican music, featuring rare archive footage and interviews with Ken Boothe, Big Youth, Stranger Cole and Pat Kelly.

Duke Vin and the Birth of Ska tells the tale of the man who started the first UK sound system and brought the sound of Ska to the country.

Word Sound and Power is a documentary about the Soul Syndicate, Jamaica’s finest group of instrumentalists who backed Bob Marley and the Wailers, Toots and the Maytals, Burning Spear and Jimmy Cliff.

Part 2, on Sunday, features Dreadlock Rock, a documentary that follows Californian musician Jack Miller, who went to Jamaica in 1977 and befriended, recorded and performed with a who’s who of Jamaican reggae superstars.

Heartland Reggae is a film that looks at the One Love Peace Concert held in Kingston Jamaica in 1978, featuring footage of Bob Marley, U Roy, Jacob Miller and Peter Tosh.

The last film of the day, Rico The Legacy, is the story of Rico, trombone player to the Specials, Bob Marley, Laurel Aitken and Jools Holland. Rico the legacy will be introduced by the films Spanish director Jep Jorda.

Boss Sounds festival director Adam Collerton said: "It’s great to have the Tyneside Cinema on board for this year’s festival and the screening programme complements the live shows perfectly.

"We are pleased to have one of the filmmakers and the festival’s founder on hand to say a few words at the screenings too."
