LEGENDARY club night Retro is back this weekend in a dance extravaganza fund-raiser for an armed forces charity.

The get-together at The Medicine Bar, one of Teesside’s newest nightspots, has been organised and will be headlined by the Godfather of Retro himself PAUL TAYLOR.

Paul came up with the idea after receiving a letter from the girlfriend of 22-year-old Teesside soldier Private James Rose who lost his legs in a bomb blast in Afghanistan in November.

“In December last year I received a touching letter from a young lady called Naiomi Wise,” Paul says.

“She told me that her boyfriend James Rose - a huge Retro fan from Teesside - had suffered devastating injuries with the loss of both of his legs whilst serving with our troops in Afghanistan.

“This deeply saddened me and my team, so therefore January 16 will be a night dedicated to James and all of our brave war heroes.

“The proceeds of the event will be donated to the Help For Heroes organisation. I’m hoping everyone will come and support us and we can raise not only spirits but money to make a difference for this great cause.

“What better way to make a donation than to dance to your favourite classics knowing your are making a contribution from the dancefloor. My thanks go out to Barry Faulkner and his team at Medicine for making this happen.”

Retro is now in its 21st year and entry tomorrow night at the venue which until recently was the Purple Onion will be £10.
