This looks like its going to be a great show...

The Head of Steam & The Cluny

Rate this venue:

The Head of Steam

The Head of Steam has constant acclaim as one of the best bars in the city. It plays up to the minute music and is recognised for its musical brilliance. We hazard to use the words, but it is a cool and groovy place (hope it doesn’t lose those characteristics now we have just used them!).

The upstairs bar is dark and cosy with a very welcoming feel. The bar servery and back bar are very attractively designed. The bar gets pretty crowded most night and the atmosphere. The basement bar is vaulted and low.

It has a small stage for bands. It is one of very few cellar bars in the city. The basement attracts a younger group of people generally.

The Cluny

The Cluny is one of only two pubs in Newcastle to be in the 2004 Good Pub Guide – that’s how good it is. The Cluny has a large but comfortable (but clearly ex-industrial) main L-shaped bar, a 250 person capacity function room with bar, on two levels and with a stage.

This is a major live music venue and it is also hired out regularly for weddings, parties and meetings. There is also a gallery with comfortable sofas, which is part of Newcastle art scene. The bar has built a reputation as a great bar and top live music venue.

Though not that easy to get to for many, it attracts different types of people from Tyneside and beyond. All shows start at 8pm unless otherwise stated tickets available from: The Cluny, RPM, Beat Down, Alt Vinyl (all Newcastle), and Hot Rats (Sunderland).
