Gotham Town has been Voted Bar of the Month!
Gotham Town is a busy city centre bar opposite Central Station. It has easy links to buses, metros, trains and taxis.
It's central location has given Gotham Town a reputation as a starter and finishing bar which in Newcastle is a bit of a rarity around so many other bars.
The Central Station area as a whole is relatively trouble free and a fantastic night out.
It has to be Newcastle's best kept secret for a pub circuit.
Around Central you have many bars which cater for almost everyone's taste. It is also within easy reach of China Town, Bigg Market, Quayside and Gate Complex.
Gotham Town takes its name not from the famous Batman movies but from the fact that Newcastle was once supposedly called Gotham Town.
Then as a trade to the port in medieval times along with the birth of Christianity further up the coast, it became a place of importance so a castle was built to protect it from invaders, which now gives us the name Newcastle.
An interesting story is that Gotham Town is said to be built on a graveyard. This could be possible, as the bar is located right next door to St Mary's Catholic Church.
There have been many scary stories surrounding Gotham Town over the last 13 years.
Most notably 2 years ago, 11 magnums of vodka dropped off their optic bracket over night. No other spirit was damaged or fell - just vodka!
The bar is now more famously known for its music and doubles than for ghost stories.
With DJd every Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, the music played is a rock / indie / brit pop scene, with a bit of a party and soul near the end of a weekend night.
Gotham Town has its own cult following on Facebook called DUKESTOCK.
Another aspect to Gotham Town is it's legendary atmosphere.
People come to Gotham to have fun and let their hair down.
It has been said many times that people have had the best night ever in Newcastle because of the vibe in Gotham Town.
Gotham is split into two areas. Upstairs you have the dance floor and DJ which has its own type of atmosphere and downstairs you have booths and snug areas for people to hang out in and chat, party and for people to create their own intimate environment.
Being located near the Metro Arena, Gotham Town is the ideal stop off point for most if not all major concerts.
